Latest exam updates

Performance Grade exams

We are pleased to confirm that we will be offering Performance Grade exams every month for the remainder of 2021. Please check our Dates and Fees page for details.

Grade 5 Music Theory waiver (not applicable in the UK & Ireland)

We are extending our Grade 5 Music Theory waiver until 23 May 2021. This means that candidates with a Grade 6 to 8 Performance Grade exam submission date up to and including 23 May can take their exam without first passing Grade 5 Music Theory. We are making this exceptional arrangement to allow candidates who have been unable to take an exam in recent months to progress with their learning. From 24 May, the Grade 5 Music Theory requirement will return. For exam dates/exam submission dates after 23 May, all candidates taking a Grade 6 to 8 Performance or Practical Grade must first pass Grade 5 Music Theory.

COVID-19 update: 21/12/2020

In line with government guidelines, our office is closed. While all staff are working from home, Music Medals will continue to operate, with assessments being moderated and processed. Results will continue to be confirmed by email, however we will not be able to post out certificates and medals until we are back in office.

Please pass on our apologies to your candidates.

Change to Music Medal certificates

As of March 2020 we are withdrawing Music Medals from the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and certificates will no longer carry the Ofqual logo. This change will allow us to make important improvements to Music Medals in response to feedback from teachers and learners. The deadline for submitting an entry to receive a regulated certificate was 22 December 2019, with video and results submitted by 31 January 2020. Results submitted after this date will receive our new non-regulated certificate.

Apart from new certificates, we are continuing to offer Music Medals in their current form with no other changes.
